Being small is not a bad thing, especially if you are a worm and there’s a chicken chasing you! A delightful story about a normal day in the wilderness and how it pays off to be small in size sometimes.
قصّة “دودة صغيرة جدًّا” نصّ بسيط برسومات وألوان جذّابة وتفاعليّة، يتعرّف الطّفل من خلالها على مساكن الحيوانات مثل جحر الثّعلب وخمّ الدّجاج، وأيضًا تبيّن السّلسلة الغذائيّة للحيوانات وكيف يتغذّى بعضها على الآخر فنجد الثّعلب يحاول اللّحاق بالدّجاجة ليأكلها والدّجاجة تلحق بالدّودة. وأيضًا تحمل القصّة بداخلها فكرة عامّة، فأحيانًا يكون الحجم الصّغير ميزة تفيدك وتحميك من المخاطر.
A Teeny Tiny Worm is a simple story with attractive illustrations that introduces children to animal habitats, and describes the food chain in the wilderness. It shows how sometimes being small in size can be a very useful feature. The story starts in the morning when animals come out of their dwelling: the fox emerges from its burrow, the hen from its coop, and the small worm comes out from a hole in the ground. Soon after we see starts looking for its food.The fox chases the chicken. The chicken chases the worm but suddenly, they all hear the sound of the hunter approaching. The fox flees and the chicken scurries away in fear. As for the worm, it continues to stroll calmly and quietly, saying to itself oh how nice it is to be small.
About the Author
Amal Naser is a multi-talented writer who writes picture books, novels, poetry, and plays. She is a professional trainer who presents workshops on creative writing to children and young adults. She started her career as a children's magazine chief editor. In 2011 she took over the production and editorial department in Dar al Banan and left her mark there.
In 2016 her book “The Tunnel” won first prize at Beirut Bookfair. In the same year, she won the Abdul Hamid Shoman award for best play scenario. In 2020 she established her own publishing house “Rummana” which will focus on young adult publications.
About the Illustrator
Mel Armstrong is an award-winning illustrator and surface pattern designer from the coolest capital in the world, Wellington, New Zealand. She has illustrated over 15 picture books, baby board books and activity books that have been published worldwide. Her work, which is a mix of traditional and digital media using textures and patterns, is largely influenced by the incredible flora and fauna of her home countries, Australia & New Zealand.
قصّة "دودة صغيرة جدًّا" بنصّ بسيط ورسومات تفاعليّة تعرّف الأطفال على مساكن الحيوانات والسلسلة الغذائيّة للحيوانات وكيف يتغذّى بعضها على الآخر، وتبيّن كيف أنّ الحجم الصّغير أحيانا قد يكون ميزة مفيدة. فمع بداية الصّباح، يخرج كلّ حيوان من مسكنه: الثّعلب يطلع من جحره والدّجاجة تخرج من الخمّ أمّا الدّودة الصّغيرة فتنطلق من ثقب الأرض، كلّ منهم يركض وراء طعامه، فالثّعلب يلاحق الدّجاجة والدّجاجة تلحق بالدّودة فتختبئ الدّودة بين الأعشاب، ثمّ فجأة يسمع صوت أقدام الصّيّاد قادمًا من بعيد فيفرّ الثعلب هاربًا وترفرف الدّجاجة من الخوف، أمّا الدّودة فتبقى تتمشّى وتتنزّه بكلّ هدوء فهي سعيدة لأنّ الصّيّاد لن يستطيع أن يراها بسبب حجمها الصّغير.
