Jude struggles with a speech problem in kindergarten, and when her classmate Samir teases her, it deeply hurts her feelings. Overtime, Jude’s confidence grows, and with the unexpected help of her baby brother Zaid, she gradually overcomes her challenge.
This heartwarming story shows how ridicule can hurt as much as physical pain, and that with patience, we can overcome our struggles.
تعاني جود من مشكلة في النطق في صف الروضة، وعندما يسخر منها زميلها سمير، تحزن كثيرًا. مع مرور الوقت، تنمو ثقة جود بنفسها، وبمساعدة أخيها الصغير زيد، تتغلب جود تدريجيًا على المشكلة.
توضّح هذه القصة أن السخرية يمكن أن تكون مؤلمة مثل الأذى الجسدي. وأن الوقت كفيل بحلّ بعض الصعوبات التي نواجهها أحيانًا.
Many children have a handicap, which makes them “different”. They may have to endure ridicule from other kids. In “ I Can” Jude has to deal with a speech impediment. When kids make fun of her, she reacts with anger and violence.The teacher helps to diffuse the situation by explaining that ridiculing someone can be just as hurtful as hitting someone. Jude is given the acceptance she seeks and the time to overcome her impediment at her own pace. She realizes that she is no longer lisping while interacting with her baby brother Zaid. It is also an indirect allusion that baby brothers can be useful.

About the Author
Taghreed Najjar, was awarded the 2021 Jordanian State Award for children Literature. She has been a several time nominee for the Astrid Lindgren award and a several-time winner and short listee of the Etisalat Prize for Arabic Children’s Literature. Her YA novel Whose Doll is This? Won the YA book of the year (2019)
With a portfolio spanning 4 decades, Taghreed – a multifaceted author - writes picture books, middle grade and young adult books. Her picture books have become classics that are read and enjoyed by generations. While her YA novels have found great success in addressing difficult subjects reflecting political and cultural realities in the region.
Several of Najjar’s books have been recommended by “White Ravens” and several have been translated to languages including English, Italian, Swedish, Danish, French and Turkish.
About the Illustrator
Lujaina Al-Assil studied Visual Communication and Interior Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University. She has been working in the field of illustration since 1969 and has also supervised the art production in several children magazines in Syria and other Arab countries. Since 2001, she has been the artistic advisor of children's books at the Syrian Ministry of Culture and has hosted six individual painting exhibitions in Syria, Jordan, France, and Italy. In addition to her art exhibitions, Lujaina has taken part and contributed in regional and international books fairs around the world and has presented several lectures and supervised many workshops in the field of children's book illustrations in Italy, Kuwait, Sharjah, Lebanon, Tunis, and Syria. Lujaina Al-Assil passed away on February 29 2024, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy
كثيرمن الأطفال يعانون من بعض الصعوبات التي تجعلهم ""مختلفين"" في نظر الآخرين. وأحيانًا يقوم بعض الأطفال بالاستهزاء من هذا الطفل المختلف.
في قصة "" إنني أستطيع"" تعاني جود من صعوبة في لفظ بعض الحروف وعندما يستهزئ منها سامي تغضب وتحاول ضربه.
توضح المعلمة لجود وسامي أن الاستهزاء وضرب الآخرين تصرفان سيئان.
تحصل جود على القبول من الأطفال والوقت الذي تحتاجه للتغلب على هذه الصعوبة. وتكون المفاجأة أن الحل يأتي
عن طريق ملاعبتها لأخيها الطفل زيد وهو تأكيد غير مباشر على أن الأخ الجديد قد يكون مساعدًا لها وليس فقط سببًا في إزعاجها ومنافستها على حب واهتمام الأهل.

عن الكاتب/ة
تغريد النجار من رواد أدب الأطفال الحديث في الاردن. فازت بجائزة الدولة التقديرية عن أدب الأطفال في حقل الآداب مجال أدب الأطفال لعام 2021. ترشحت لجائزة أستريد لندجرن العالمية المرموقة لعدة دورات.
تكتب تغريد النجار للأطفال منذ أكثر من40 عاما وتتوجه في كتاباتها للأعمار من 3+ وحتى 18+. قصصها المصورة تعتبر من الكتب الكلاسيكية التي تتداول من جيل لآخر أما رواياتها لليافعين فقد لاقت نجاحًا كبيرًا، واحتفى بها قرّاؤها على نطاق واسع، كما تم اعتمادها في المدارس كجزء من مناهجها الدراسية.
وصلت العديد من كتبها للقوائم القصيرة لجائزة اتصالات والشيخ زايد وحصلت على جوائز اقليمية كان آخرها جائزة اتصالات عن كتاب العام لليافعين 2019 عن روايتها ""لمن هذه الدمية؟""
كما تم اختيار بعض كتبها من قبل قائمة ""وايت ريفن"" العالمية لأفضل الكتب.
ترجمت العديد من كتبها إلى لغات مختلفة منها الانكليزية والفرنسية والإيطالية، والسويدية والدنماركية، والتركية، واليونانية وغيرها.
عن الرسام/ة
لجينة الأصيل من مواليد دمشق، حاصلة على شهادة البكالوريوس في الاتصالات البصرية والعمارة الداخلية -كلية الفنون الجميلة - جامعة دمشق. عملت في الرسوم والإشراف الفني في مجلات وكتب الأطفال السورية والعربية. قدمت محاضرات وأشرفت على عديد من ورش العمل في مجال رسوم كتب الأطفال في كل من إيطاليا - الكويت - الشارقة - تونس - لبنان - سورية. كان لها مشاركات دولية في معارض رسوم كتب الأطفال في سلوفاكيا واليابان وإيران وباريس وإيطاليا. لها أكثر من 200 لوحة مقتناة من قبل المتاحف أو بشكل فردي. صممت الكثير من أغلفة الكتب والحملات الإعلانية، بالإضافة إلى تصميم ديكور وشخصيات مسرحية لعرائس للأطفال. كما صممت ورسمت أكثر من 65 كتاباً للأطفال صدرت عن دور نشر في: سورية - لبنان- الأردن- مصر- الإمارات. كما حصلت لجينة على مجموعة من الجوائز الدولية. توفيت لجينة الأصيل في 29 فبراير 2024 تاركة إرثًا فنيًّا غنيًّا.
